Abbeville - France

Abbeville France is a very historic, cultural city located in Northern France, right along the Somme River. It is halfway from Calais to Paris, making it a key point in France history. In fact, in medieval times, this was the lowest crossing of the Somme River. It was very near here where the Army of Edward III crossed over the river before the Battle of Crecy, which took place in 1346. The city continued to prosper, growing in beauty and wealth, up until the Second World War. During this dark hour in history, it was nearly completely destroyed in one single night when it was bombed by Germany. It was rebuilt after the war, and is known now for being a mostly modern city. Of course, some of the most historic features remain… for example, the Flemish style French National Railway, St. Vulfran’s Gothic Church, and the Chateau de Bagatelle can all be seen to this very day.

St. Vulfran’s Gothic Church is especially amazing to behold. It was built in 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries, and has one of the oldest bell towers in France. This amazing structure was actually completed in 1993. If you want to visit the Church or take any other kind of guided tour in the city, you can visit the tourist office. There are also many magnificent hotels to stay in while you spend time in Abbeville. In fact, several Abbeville hotels are known for their outstanding accommodations and luxurious amenities.

If you love to get away to places that are both exotic and elegant, then you will love Abbeville France.
