Abbeville - Mississippi

Abbeville Mississippi is a small town in the county of Lafayette. The year 2000 census showed the local population to be just over 420 people. The town actually received it’s present name because it was settled by pioneers from the town of Abbeville, South Carolina. This took place during the 1830s. The pioneers and the local Chickasaw Indians were able to live in piece. In fact, the chief of the local Chickasaw tribes operated his own ferry along the trade route known as the Memphis-Oxford route. The town continued to grow, but was nearly annihilated completely during the American civil war during the battle of Vicksburg.

The entire town encompasses about three and a half miles of land. The town is pretty diverse ethnically, has an average family size of 2.6, and is home to residents ranging from very young to over the age of 65. If you are planning on visiting Abbeville Mississippi,  you can count on spending time in a very historic setting that is close to the beautiful Mississippi River. It is a small town, so you can expect to find peace and luxury at the local Abbeville hotels.
