Abbeville - Georgia

Abbeville is a city in Wilcox County, Georgia, United States. Abbeville was the site of Battle at Breakfast Creek and a Confederate Memorial was erected in front of the county courthouse. The Wilcox County courthouse, built in 1903, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,298 people, 373 households, and 255 families residing in the city.

It is widely believed that Abbeville, Georgia was settled by French Huguenots and that it was home to Vice President John C. Calhoun, but it was neither; these events took place in Abbeville, South Carolina. But it is believed that Hernando de Soto passed through what is present day Abbeville, Georgia.

Abbeville was home to the Georgia Normal College and Business Institute.

The city of Abbeville, famous for its large population of wild hogs, is often nicknamed "Wild Hog Capital of Georgia". The Ocmulgee Wild Hog Festival is held annually in May with food, arts and crafts, live music and various contests.

The Ocmulgee River, which is located within the city limits, provides ample opportunities for boating, fishing and camping. The area is also home to many deer, wild turkey, quail and other wildlife.

There are no hotels in Abbeville, Georgia but you may stay in a hotel in a nearby town like the Jameson Inn in Eastman (GA).
